All About Wig Grips

All About Wig Grips

(With Stanley)

Hey guys, I thought it would be fun to try something different today. We have Stanley here with us, and we'll be testing out some wig grips to see the difference between them. It's going to be like a new wig wearer's perspective.

Stanley is my husband and takes care of all the creative stuff behind the camera, like video editing and photography. He knows a lot about wigs, which wasn't something he expected to know in life, but here we are. Let's see which wig grip fits well.

Standard Velvet Grip

This is a standard wig grip right here. You place it behind the ears, above the neck, around your natural hairline. If you don't have hair, you'd put it where you want your hairline to start. It feels nice and soft on your head and protects your scalp. However, there are some cons. It may rise up or shoot off the back of your head, especially if you have a lace front wig. It can be visible underneath, and without lace, it may lift off your head, creating a gap and not looking natural. These are nice for certain purposes, but not recommended for hard front wigs.

Lace Elastic Grip

Now, let's talk about this different version of a lace front wig. This one is from Nel's wigs, and I personally like it because I have a weird-shaped head, especially in the back. Some of the velvet grips, especially the full ones, tend to slide up on me. This one has a little elastic band behind it, and you can adjust the sizing. It stays on the back of my head better, but still has the lace front. It's not as tight and easier to hook the back of the wig.

Lace Velcro Grip

The difference between these two is the lace front. When Stanley puts it on, I'll show you. Stanley prefers a side part, so he shifted his part to the side. These are not as tight as the full velvet grips because the lace isn't stretchy. So, getting a snug fit may be a bit harder. If you prefer a super tight and secure grip, this one may feel looser due to the lace. Keep that in mind.

Silicone Grip (OG)

This here is the gold standard of silicone wig grips that most retailers offer. Put it on your head and let me know your thoughts. Stanley thinks it's tight and feels like an instant facelift. After wearing this for an hour, I always get the worst migraine and wants to rip the whole wig off. This is not my favorite but it will definitely keep your wig from budging!

Temu Grip

Next, I came across a product that seems to be the current trend - temu grips. These are also priced under $3!! They are also available in different colors, The temu grips are very stretchy, which could be beneficial for those with larger heads who struggle with wig grips. I purchased them in all available colors to confirm consistency, and they were indeed all the same. These grips are excellent and, given their price point of around $3, they've become my favorite..

Wig Fix Grip

Moving on, we tried the Wig Fix. This brand specializes in wig grips and offers them in a variety of shades. I particularly like their range of skin tone options. However, this grip was tighter and might not be the best option for larger heads. It fits well on smaller heads and is wider than the original grip.

Firm Grip

Next, we tested the Firm Grip. This is a disposable wig grip that you can use once or multiple times if you wish. I find this particularly useful because I wear makeup and often get makeup on my grips. The Firm Grip allows you to simply throw it away after use. It feels lightweight and is hypoallergenic, and it's also made of medical-grade material. Despite its lightness, it does hold the wig well.

Keep in mind that the effectiveness of these grips can vary based on your specific needs and the size of your head. I hope this blog post helps you in choosing the right wig grip for you.
